A barrier is stopping you from entering The Pond – what’s going on?! [We’re on mini-hiatus!]

Tonight seems like a good night to be at the Pond.

After all, you’re thinking that you quite miss your little pond friends, and that you really haven’t had a chance to meet the others. (You’ve only really had a chance to meet and talk to Xialong, the Axolotl and Keeper of Magic at the Pond, but you’re keen on meeting Gen and Varian, or possibly Amina, if she’s around!)

You follow the path through the forest, finding the little purple flowers Xiaolong had planted for you to mark the Pond’s entrance, when suddenly —

You walk into … a barrier? It isn’t solid like a glass window and it definitely didn’t hurt when you walked into it. How strange! You put your hand out towards it, and you feel something — soft, silky, and kind of squishy, like you’re pushing against a big invisible pillow.

Before you give walking through the barrier another go, you hear a voice, though it sounds muted and far away.

You look around, confused. It sounded a little bit like Xiaolong! But it’s only you in the forest, it seems, and the little pink axolotl is no where in sight.

“Down here!”

You look down, seeing nothing but forest and greenery, but after concentrating very intently (what was that thing that Xiaolong always said? ‘Search with your heart and not your eyes?’), you see a faint outline of Xiaolong. Only except, she looks a little different. Is she on the other side of the barrier? What’s going on?

“I’m sorry friend, you can’t visit us right now.” You can barely make out her voice, so you crouch down to listen a bit better, as if she is right next to you. “The source of the Pond’s magic has been severed, and everyone here is trying to fix it.” She sounds rather sad, and you can imagine that her bright gills are droopy. “I’m going to miss you friend, but, please come back another time. We’re going to fix the magic as soon as possible!”

Good morning, afternoon, and evening my friends.

We’re on a short hiatus!

Unfortunately, The Quiet Pond will be in a short hiatus. Indeed, the magic of the Pond has been severed – and by that, my graphics tablet pen broke. What this means is that I’m currently not able to draw anything for The Quiet Pond. I was extremely devastated when this happened; not only did this prevent me from drawing, but graphics tablets and their parts cost a lot of money (money that I didn’t have).

Thank you, thank you, thank you

However, there’s a silver lining here: When I asked for help, the community came together and helped me get enough money to buy a new graphics tablet pen. I’m still overwhelmed that this ever happened (many tears were shed on my part; also because I am absolutely horrible at asking for help when I need it), and I am still full with feelings of gratitude and love and joy. (I don’t think I’ve ever said the words ‘thank you’ so much in a day before.) I cannot possibly put to words how grateful and how supported and loved I feel, to have people believe in me and my art and my dream. And because of the help from the community, and from you all, I’m now able to afford to buy a new tablet pen. I am so thankful for you all. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 💜

Unfortunately, the pen will take a few days to arrive – it has to be ordered! So in the meantime, The Quiet Pond will take a short break, and the squishy barrier will be gone in no time.

What can you expect when we return?

  • Xiaolong has more books to share with you: Fresh Ink, and Darius the Great Is Not Okay.
  • You’ll get to meet Gen! And he has corgi phone wallpapers to share with you all.
  • You’ll also get to meet Amina; she will be sharing with you all the wisdom of reading diversely and how you add more diverse books to your reading list!
  • Finally, you’ll get to meet Varian! They have prepared their first ever recommendation post: diverse anthologies.

Until then, thank you all friends. Again, I am so grateful for your support, and I appreciate you for visiting, for being here, and for being a light in this world. 💜

  1. Ah I’m so glad and happy that you were able to get the tablet pen! It makes me really happy when the community comes together to help someone out – especially when it’s someone as wonderful as you! I can’t wait to see more of Xiaolong and meet Amina, Gen, and Varian too, looking forward to updates! ❤
