All Boys Aren’t Blue by George M. Johnson
In a series of personal essays, prominent journalist and LGBTQIA+ activist George M. Johnson explores his childhood, adolescence, and college years in New Jersey and Virginia. From the memories of getting his teeth kicked out by bullies at age five, to flea marketing with his loving grandmother, to his first sexual relationships, this young-adult memoir weaves together the trials and triumphs faced by Black queer boys.
Both a primer for teens eager to be allies as well as a reassuring testimony for young queer men of color, All Boys Aren’t Blue covers topics such as gender identity, toxic masculinity, brotherhood, family, structural marginalization, consent, and Black joy. Johnson’s emotionally frank style of writing will appeal directly to young adults.
I’m really looking forward to reading this. All Boys Aren’t Blue sounds like a powerful memoir that demands to be read. I’m looking forward to the explorations of gender identity, masculinity, and how this intersects with Black identity. Friends who have read this has praised this already – I have a feeling this will be a good one.

Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova
An epic tale of revenge and redemption in a world where a memory thief must fight against terrifying monarchs bent on the destruction of her people.
When the royal family of Puerto Leones sets out to destroy magic through a grand and terrible inquisition, spy and memory-thief Renata seeks to kill the prince, leader of the King’s Justice, who plans to use a terrible new weapon to wipe out the magic of the Moria…
For fans who enjoyed the ferocity of Ember in the Ashes, INCENDIARY explores the double-edged sword of memory and the triumph of hope and love in the midst of fear and oppression.
If you’ve read Córdova’s previous work, such as Labyrinth Lost, then you’ll have a good idea of why I’m excited to read this! 15th century Spain. The inquisition. Fantasy elements! This sounds like a delightful read, perhaps a little dark as well, and I am so here for it.

Book Announcement: A new YA astrology-based romance!
How exciting is this news?! I love that All Signs Point to Yes is edited by three Black women – and I absolutely adore Cara and Adrianne, who both run marginsbox – and that this anthology will include a story about aromantic people!! I love anthologies already but this? This sounds amazing.
Book Announcement: A YA anthology that gives ‘classic romance tropes’ a new spin!
How cool is this!? I love the new wave of anthologies with new and incredible voices, and Fools in Love sounds delightful. I’m also loving the line-up; so many amazing authors of books I’ve read and loved and I can’t wait to read this!!
Book Announcement: F/F VAMPIRE/HUMAN ROMANCE!
If this is a sign that vampires are making a comeback, then I’m on board. The Lost Girls sounds SO SO GOOD and I genuinely squealed when I read this news. I love the premise of this, the promise of a f/f romance, and just. vampires! GIVE ME.
Book Announcement: An MG with an autistic lead! AND A DOG.
There is definitely a dearth of literature featuring autistic and neurodiverse characters, so the news that Izzy at the End of the World is coming our way? Fantastic news, and so good to hear during Autistic Pride Month.
Book Announcement: A new Indian-inspired fantasy coming our way!
Indian-inspired world? Duology? Magic? SIBLINGS? Sign me up! I’m intrigued by the hints of the book’s worldbuilding and I feel like this will be such a wonderful world to discover. The Ivory Key sounds utterly delightful and I am delighted that we’ll be getting this book come 2021.
Book announcement: A MG with a magical school and a Black MC!
How awesome does this sound?! Middle grade is such an exciting and transformative space right now and I’m loving the sound of this. Curl pattern activated wands! A ferret security squad?! I cannot wait – this is going to be so much fun!
YES! More queer historical stories! I’m loving that this is going to be new adult, f/f, and about a heiress who falls in love with a singer? I’m falling in love with this book. I can’t wait to read this!
Cover Reveal: We have a UK book cover for A SKY BEYOND THE STORM!
Perhaps this is an unpopular opinion but… I really really like the UK boo covers for the An Ember in the Ashes trilogy. Although I love seeing Laia’s face in the US covers, I also love the simplicity and colour schemes of the UK covers. And seeing that lioness roar, paired with that scythe? Truly a service for fans of the series!
Cover Reveal: A new cover for the sequel to Shadow Frost!!
Not only is Coco Ma slaying the ‘books as outfits’ trend that was on Twitter a few weeks back, but how gorgeous is that cover for God Storm?! I love swords on book covers and this is no exception.
Book Community Spotlight
There will be no book community spotlight today, friends! The team and I will be re-evaluating how we do the book community spotlight, and may move to highlighting bookish readathons, events, posts, videos, and photos rather than people. Stay tuned!
