During our Pride Month post, we have had the honour of having some of our guests talk about how their queer identity intersects with their religious identities. For instance, our first guest Fadwa talked about her experience of being both queer and muslim (and how that was not a contradiction) and we have also had Nicole, who talked about how her Christian upbringing shaped her journey into bisexuality. As a queer woman of colour, something that I’ve reflected on a lot is the burden that queer people of colour feel to ‘perform’ their queer identities. There is so much pressure to express queerness in ways that are highly visible, and for queer people of colour, when queer spaces are predominantly occupied by white people, it can be a heavy weight to bear.

In the discussions that you would have seen across our Pride Month posts, you would have read how queer spaces can be precarious and fraught for queer people of colour. As evidenced by the gatekeeping by, typically, white queers and the oversight on the nuances that come with how queerness can intersect with identities, giving rise to a diversity of complex experiences, we still have far to go when it comes
